What preparations are required before applying plaster?

Plastering gypsum is primarily used for applying skim coats to various interior walls and ceilings in residential buildings; it is not suitable for areas that frequently come into contact with water, such as bathrooms and kitchens. In this issue, Shandong Bangyuan New Building Materials Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of lightweight gypsum products, will share some preparatory steps to take before applying plastering gypsum, hoping to be of assistance to all our readers.

Depending on the available application conditions, select the appropriate type of plastering gypsum; alternatively, if specific performance requirements are dictated by the construction process, specify a plastering gypsum with tailored characteristics.

When the putty layer is less than 3 mm thick, the all‑surface‑type plaster can be applied directly; when the thickness exceeds 3 mm, first use the base‑layer type plaster to level the surface, then apply the all‑surface‑type plaster with an elastic coating.

At the joints of the two types of wall materials, use alkali-resistant mesh fabric with a basis weight exceeding 80 g/m² whenever possible to enhance performance.

The edges of the embedded holes must be left clear in advance.

The internal wall corners, surface finishes, and door leaf corners comply with the design specifications.

Implement safety protection measures for completed works: windows and doors should be protected with wooden strips or plastic tape; floors should be covered with plastic sheeting; installed pipelines, fire‑proof boxes, electrical switch boxes, junction boxes, embedded components, equipment, guardrails, and other elements should be protected using plastic sheeting.

Grassroots-level solutions in rural areas:

Effectively removes surface dust, grime, grease, and other contaminants from rural grassroots areas, leaving them clean and tidy.

Rural grassroots construction often suffers from uneven surfaces and non‑precast holes, among other drawbacks; similar materials can be used to achieve a smooth, solid finish.

At door and window openings and along edge joints, the use of pre‑filled materials is required.

Apply water to the rural base surfaces in advance to moisten them, and ensure there is no standing water when applying putty. For walls with high absorbency, first apply a coat of construction-grade adhesive.

Slurry preparation:

The mixing proportions of the raw materials for plastering gypsum should be appropriate; it is strongly recommended to refer to the suggested mortar mix ratio.

Each batch of material should be used up within the specified time. After initial setting, the slurry must not be re‑watered and remixed for use.

First, pour the water into the vertical mixer, then add the dry mix. Mix for 2 to 5 minutes until the slurry reaches the desired mortar consistency. Allow it to stand for 5 minutes, then perform a second mixing before use.

Construction Procedures and Precautions for Rubber Powder–Polystyrene Granule Systems

1. The rubber powder–polystyrene bead insulation mortar consists of rubber powder and polystyrene beads, which are packaged separately in bags. When used, the two components are mixed with water according to a specified ratio (rubber powder to water: 1:2). This material should be mixed as needed and applied within 4 hours.

Characteristics and Key Construction Points of Polymer-Bonded Mortar

Many customers do not fully understand the characteristics and key construction considerations of polymer‑bonded mortar. In this issue, a polymer‑bonded mortar manufacturer from Shandong will share with you the distinctive features of our products.

What are the main properties of graphite polystyrene boards?

Graphite‑polystyrene insulation boards, EPS polystyrene boards, and mechanically bonded rock wool mortar composite panels. The hydrophobic rock wool board serves as the thermal insulation layer, which is anchored to the base wall using a combined adhesive‑and‑mechanical fastening system. It comprises a finishing coat made of skim coat mortar and fiberglass mesh reinforcement, topped with either a decorative mortar finish or a paint coating, forming an A‑class non‑combustible building energy‑saving insulation system.
